Board Update: June 11, 2019

Tuesday, June 11th, 2019 Posted in AGM, Board Meeting Minutes, ROC Board | Comments Off on Board Update: June 11, 2019

Our Annual General Meeting was held on Monday, June 10 at the PRCC. Reports from the Executive Director, Facility Maintenance Manager, Operations and Finance Manager and Program and Events Manager were presented. Our Treasurer provided a financial review of the 2018/19 fiscal year, and our Board Elections were held. We welcome new Board Member Bill Aasvangen to the table, and all of our current board members were re-elected as well.
  • Al Goodyer, Chair
  • Rob Gilbert, Vice Chair
  • Treasurer, Brad Knight
  • Secretary, Coralee Carter
The Board will take a short break over the summer, possibly convening subcommittee meetings to review transit updates if news of our feasibility grant is approved and action required, and to discuss possible fundraising strategies. As well, work on the Goodwood Beautification project will continue.
We have reached the end of the current strategic plan for the board, and our focus beginning in September will be in redrafting a new five-year plan. We will work in conjunction with community development staff from HRM to achieve this goal.

Board Update: November 2018

Tuesday, November 27th, 2018 Posted in Monthly Board News, ROC Board, ROC News | Comments Off on Board Update: November 2018

Our board continues to meet monthly. We’ve changed our regular meeting night to be more closely aligned with our financial reporting deadlines, and we now meet the fourth Monday of the month at the PRCC, starting at 6:30.

The Board wishes to thank Liz Amyoony, who has been with the board since 2016. Liz has stepped down due to work commitments, but has been a valuable source of human resources expertise for the board of directors. We offer our sincere thanks, and very best wishes to her!

We do have openings for board members, and would welcome anyone who is interested to have a conversation with our Executive Director, Shirley Jollimore, about the role and responsibilities of the board. Email her at if you’d like to discuss the possibility of working with us! We are specifically looking for a voice from the Goodwood area, and the local business community, but would welcome anyone with particular skill or expertise to join our team.

We’ve made some progress on our strategic plan, which you can view here (link to updated plan) and our transit subcommittee will convene early in the new year to examine the possibility of applying for funding through the province for a feasibility study on community transit. We know that the current HRM transit plan will not be reviewed until 2021, so we will look into other community-based transit options.

Our election for board of directors will take place at this meeting. We are accepting nominations for one or two volunteer board members! If you are interested, please review the attached information about the role of the collective board and individual board members.
If you feel this is an opportunity that suits your skillset and experience, please indicate your interest to Shirley Jollimore by emailing and you can be presented at the AGM as a candidate!  The ROC board meets monthly on Monday evenings.
We hope to see you there!

Take Part in the ROC Strategic Planning Survey

Friday, January 6th, 2017 Posted in ROC Board, ROC News | Comments Off on Take Part in the ROC Strategic Planning Survey

The Resource Opportunities Centre (ROC) is a local, community-based, non-profit organization that serves the Prospect Communities from the areas of Goodwood to West Dover.  Our work is driven by our vision of a welcoming, thriving, innovative community.  We are dedicated to sustainability and community development through the delivery of diverse recreational, educational, cultural, social, and technology-related opportunities.

The ROC is working to develop a strategic plan that will guide our efforts for the next three years.  We would like to hear from residents and other stakeholders to provide insight and feedback to help form our plan.  We invite you to take part in the following survey and provide your comments and suggestions.

Community members were invited to attend our Community Conversations, a series of public meetings which were held in 2013 and 2014, to provide their thoughts and ideas.  Details from these conversations, including the information gathered as well as the progress to date and areas of opportunity can be found below and may be helpful in completing the survey:
