During the past year the ROC has met a variety of milestones. Here are a few things the ROC accomplished in 2010 – 2011:

Held Grand Opening of facility – 1000 plus people in attendance

  • Grand Opening Dance
  • Promotion of activities and programs on-line and roadside signage
  • Successfully secured summer grants to hire 4 students to work at the community centre and 2 students who worked out of the Terence Bay location
  •  Secured 2 Youth staff Fall and Winter at Terence Bay C@P
  • Ran summer camps
  • Hosted sporting tournaments
  • Opened Fitness centre
  • Hosted wedding receptions
  • Hosted ROC AGM recruited 15 Board members
  • Arranged for bussing to and from Prospect Road elementary for before and after school programs through Stock transportation
  • Partnered with groups to host dances – Valentines – St Patricks’
  • Hosted hugely successful Prospect Craft crawl
  • Ran full and diverse line-up of fall-winter programs and workshops for all ages
  • Designed pathway to Prospect Road elementary – site line cleared, path development and completion Spring 2011
  • Held Halloween dance
  • Held Christmas Tree lighting
  • Hosted pancake breakfast
  • Space rented for a variety of community fundraisers and benefits
  • Facilitated children’s Christmas and February break camps
  • Hosted Youth Day
  • Created successful Youth drop in program
  • Change in ROC Board Chair – Lost Chair to ill health – transitioned new Chair
  • Supported development of sub-committees and organizational structure
  • Recruited new Treasurer
  • Tightened financial controls and processes
  • Mentored a Graduate Student at The Mount who completed a volunteer research practicum for the Resource Opportunities Centre, which resulted in an educational resource entitled “Youth Engagement: Participation in Community Youth Programs”
  • Held facilitate Board development retreat
  • Reviewed organizational Vision, mission, goals and values – approved by Board
  • Worked with HRM and artists through call for proposals, to installation and official unveiling of Public Art
  • Continued to work with John Little Blacksmith-artist building sculpture for donor recognition – process filmed
  • Running a full and diverse line-up of spring-summer programs and workshops for all ages
  • Creation and approval of Terms of Reference for sub-committees
  • Funding proposals submitted (SOW – Rural Innovation – Voluntary Sector )
  • Adaptation of manual for Employees
  • Hosted facility tours for Councillors from across Canada
  • Communication and information exchange is vitally important to the success of our organization.
